Hard opens every remaining direction. On top of the rows, columns and diagonals of the easier settings, a word can be laid down in reverse, so it reads right to left, bottom to top, or backwards along a slant. The words themselves do not change; only the way they are written into the grid does.

This is where the kitchen vocabulary becomes an advantage. Short, familiar words like knife or whisk are recognisable even inverted, and once you accept that a promising sequence might be running the other way, the grid opens up. Expect it to take noticeably longer than the medium version of the same size.

Learn each word backwards before you start looking. Reading the list in reverse — knife as efink, apron as norpa — trains your eye to catch the shape when it turns up mirrored in the grid.
