Scale changes the nature of the search. On a small square you can check everything; here you cannot, so method replaces brute force. Pick a target — one letter, one direction, one band of rows — and finish it before starting another. Random scanning on a field this wide leaves whole regions untouched while you reread the middle.
The theme carries the load well at this size because the jobs sit in clear families — courtroom and emergency work, the building trades, food, shops, the stage — and thinking in families keeps the list from blurring. Printed, it is the sheet to leave out for a while and return to whenever there is a free moment.
Cross off each word on the list as you place it, and note which directions you have already exhausted. On a marathon board, the words you lose are the ones you searched for twice.
