The extra room lets the longer animals in. Names like Kangaroo, Squirrel and Hedgehog need a decent run of cells, and on this board they get it, often stretching most of a row or column. That changes the texture of the search: you are looking for long shapes as well as short ones, and each asks for a different kind of attention.

Nothing gets harder in terms of direction. Words still run rightwards and downwards only, so the added difficulty is purely one of volume and patience. That suits someone who has finished a few easy grids and wants a longer sitting without a new rule to learn, and it prints cleanly for a group working at different speeds.

Several names here share a first letter — the R group and the C group especially — so when you find one, check the area around it before moving on.
