Reversal is the real difficulty, not the size. Once a word can be written backwards, the shape you memorized from the list no longer matches what your eye is trained to catch, and half the search consists of reading letter runs in the wrong order on purpose. The grid stays the standard size, so the space is familiar even when the answers are not.

This is the reference challenge of the theme, and the one to hand to someone who says word searches are easy. The animal vocabulary itself stays approachable, with no obscure species and nothing you would have to look up, which keeps the difficulty in the grid rather than in the list, where it belongs.

Hunt endings as well as beginnings. Several of these animals close on -ER, which means the pair RE turns up reversed as often as ER, and either one is a lead worth following.
