Medium adds the two slanted directions. A word can drop away towards the lower right or rise towards the upper right, but it always reads in its normal order, letter after letter, never reversed. That single change is enough to break the comfortable rhythm of row-then-column scanning, because a diagonal crosses both and belongs to neither.

The animal list is wide enough to keep the board varied — savannah species, woodland mammals, a few birds and a reptile or two — so you are rarely searching for the same shape twice. This is the size most people picture when they think of a word search, and the level most adults settle on once easy stops holding their attention.

When a straight sweep dries up, trace the long diagonals from the top edge and the left edge instead — most slanted answers cross one of them.
