A tighter board does not make reversed words easier to see. Entries fold around each other, overlap on shared letters, and the short names in the theme, golf and judo among them, can sit almost anywhere without leaving an obvious trace. On a grid this size the shortest words are usually the last ones found.

Take it as a demanding break rather than a gentle one. It suits players who already know the level and want the difficulty without the surface area, and it prints in a small space, which is useful when a hard grid has to share a page with something else.

Anchor on doubled letters. Pairs like LL, MM and NN turn up in several of these sports and stay just as visible whichever way the word has been written.
